Did you know that Freehold is the hometown of the popular rock and roll artist, Bruce Springsteen? His song "My Hometown" was inspired by his hometown in the heart of Freehold. This lovely town also is rich in history, including the Battle of Monmouth, which is now reenacted once a year at the Monmouth Battlefield. Freehold also includes The American Hotel, where Abraham Lincoln once made a famous visit. It's oldest building is St. Peter's Episcopal Church, which was built in 1683.

In the 2000 census, Freehold residents' average income was $19,910, while the nation's average was $21,587. In addition, out of the Freehold residents aged 25 and older, 20% have a bachelor's or advanced college degree.
